As Earth Day 2020 fast approaches, Future Earth would like to invite you to a special virtual discussion on April 22 (13:00 CET) exploring the links between the current COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing environmental crises around the globe. They’ve gathered three eminent researchers to explore how the loss of biodiversity and ecosystems, coupled with unplanned rapid urbanization, have exacerbated hotspots of zoonotic disease.
WEBINAR: Earth Day 2020 and COVID-19. How are environmental and health crises linked?
The conversation will focus on the future of cities and how the mapping of vulnerable populations will be critical for effective decision making, as well as the ways the global response is strengthening arguments for coordinated environmental interventions to combat climate change, pollution, and other challenges.
Speakers will include:
- Dr. Peter Daszak, Future Earth oneHEALTH Global Research Project SSC Chair, and Health Knowledge-Action Network Steering Committee member
- Dr. Timon McPhearson, Future Earth Urban Knowledge-Action Network Co-chair, and
- Dr. Tolullah Oni, Future Earth, Advisory Committee member
Future Earth will also present insights from their latest survey COVID-19: Where do we go from here? which aims to capture the general public’s perception of the risks and opportunities which this crisis has opened up for our transition to a more resilient, sustainable and equitable world.
